WinRobots AddOn zum Mission-Editor

The Sigma Mission Editor is a tool delivered with the Game "Impossible Creatures".

Technically the AddOn is a separate program which acts like a "virtual user".

Therefore it enhances the original Mission Editor without changing its code. The additional features are partly useful as well as few experimental features.

The Mission Editor itself  is a 3D-World Editor Program, using a DirectX-Engine and a standard GUI.

History:

Once I did some  experiments with the Mission Editor, finding myself doing a lot of things that could be done automatically. So I started with a small WinRobots-Script "MapHelper" which was quite Ok for me for the first maps. It did not do much other things then distributing coal that time.

Later I got more and more ideas what I could make automatically in the map creation process, and though the WinRobots-System makes it really easy to do such things I did that. It seems a lot more difficult to me to explain these features now to the public, and therefore to make this WEB-Site is more difficult work then the AddOn was.

The "Land/Water distribution" on the picture left side was done with a few buttonclicks using the AME-AddOn.

After quite some time now, I thought of releasing a version to the public, without any warranty on whatever, as its another example how WinRobots can be used to make AddOns for other programs.

So I removed some buttons with experimental features and released this version  which will work even on PC with only 1024x768 screen resolution. Finally I did some testing with Chachi we made few changes, and I got a recommendation from Bill Brooks the most famous map maker around the IC community!

Here is the AddOn.  (Last Update: 31.12.03 - Version 2.00)

This is "BigMap-1024er-3"

This map is divided in 4 platforms -separated by bramble fences-.  There are some "tricks" in this map. First see where the the players are:

Players 1 + 2 Player 6
Players 3 + 4 Player 5

In the water is a second battlefield for electricity. Use the heli to go there. Use this map best with the new "Oversized Creatures Mod". It has a lot of free space for invisible creatures to hide and attack surprisingly.

Click here to see more pictures from this map.

There is a Map-Pack with maps from:

Secrets of Minotaurus II

This map is a copy of an old, partly rotten Labyrinth. If you realize, that your creatures do know the way and you don't, you'll realize one of the secrets of the IC Sigma-technology :-).

The map supports up to 4 Players, one in each corner of the Labyrinth.

This map was done to >90% automatically  using WinRobots-Technology.

Les 10 Commandements

This -again- is a proof of Concept how to get a picture into a map.

NOTE: This map was a technological experiment and actually removed from the package.

This map was done to >90% automatically  using WinRobots-Technology.

Secrets of Minotaurus I

This is the "proof of concept" for the original idea from an Labyrinth-map "out of the dust".

This map has 4-5 players, player 5 is in the center. This map is not best  for Oversized creatures. Creatures up to size 5 can pass anywhere.

This is map was done to >85% automatically  using WinRobots-Technology. After all I had to change the Labyrinth-Pathes  for 4 Players manually.

Secrets of Minotaurus III

This is a "six-corner" water-Labyrinth for 4 Players. You need fast, swimming creatures to make this.

This map is not best  for Oversized creatures. Creatures up to size 5 should pass anywhere.

This is map was done to >80% automatically  using WinRobots-Technology. After all I had to change the Labyrinth-Pathes  for 4 Players manually.

Technical Note: On the left side is (a piece of) my selfmade WinRobots-Add On for the Sigma-Mission Editor. It would never have been possible to make such a map "by hand" in 1 day.

Secrets of Minotaurus IV

This is another "six-corner" water-Labyrinth for 4 Players. You need fast, swimming creatures to make this.

This map is not best  for Oversized creatures. Creatures up to size 5 should pass anywhere.

Secrets of Minotaurus V

This is round Land-Labyrinth for 2-6 Players. You need fast, Land or Air creatures to make this.

This map is good  for Oversized creatures, too. This map has been changed for Map-Pack X to 6 Players.

This is Air-Map

This was my first attempt to make a map. It was made "by hand" and the name is "Air-Map" because the Players are "on safe mountains". They can only attack each other via air.

Actually (since Insect Invasion) the are more possibilities. Did anyone try to load 5 henchmen into the heli and then bring them on the neighbours mountain? This map was renewed to Vers. 2.0 on the 30.08.03. Please use only the newer versions as it is a lot improved.

This is the heightfield of the "Air-Map".

These are "false colours" to show the mountains you have to go to reach a base. This makes the base hard to take.

Its a long way and a "Heavy Go"

On this picture you can see that the distance between the players has been increased. Player 1 has the advantage that "Oversized Creatures" have no chance to enter his small base.

This map is good for "long ways". The map was a second attempt to increase the map size by using "labyrith structures". As you can see all structures are "hand drawn" and look like that. However I like to play with this map, as it always give intresting combinations.

This map was renewed to Vers. 2.0 on the 30.08.03. Please use only the newer versions.

This was the "Hardest Day"

for me to get this map how I wanted it to become. At that time I used first time some WinRobots-Tools to place the coal but for nothing else. This map was renewed to Vers. 2.0 on the 30.08.03. See the nice shading-effects. Please use only the newer versions.

What special about this map? There are two Teams:

- Player 1+2
- Player 4+5
- Players 3 and 6 are on their own or can team each with one team.

To see why the bases are easy to defend, take a look at the heightfield below.

This is the heightfield of the "Hardest Day"-Map.

These are "false colours" to show the stairs you have to go to reach a base. This makes the base hard to take. I think no other map has these long ways.

This is one of the new "Theater Maps".

Abou the "Theater X"-Maps. Basically they are designed as 4-Player maps. There are two additional players however. These are players 5 and 6.

These are distributed as follows:
Theater I-Map: P1 + P6, P2+P5
Theater II-Map: P1+P5, P2+P6
Theater III-Map: P1+P5, P2+P6

So you can use these maps as 3vs3 maps as well as 2vs2vs2. Or just omit Players 5 and 6 and you have a 4 players map.

On the left side the WinRobots-SME-Add On is visible. It was used at several places on these maps.

This is the "TwoSnakes II"-Map.

One of the maps in the new map-pack. The Add-On was used to create this map,

Designed as a 3vs3 map, this map has a few intresting goodies including custom sound.

Be shure to have good water units as well.

In TwoSnakes III the waterway is blocked.

This is "Theater I"-Map.

As you can see the colouring was done automatically using the new SME-AddOn.
